👉 Look back AND forward. Highlighting your successes and value to date is a great way to start the conversation but be sure to also communicate how you will continue to add value.
👉 Is it a good time? Is your Line Manager exceptionally busy or stressed. Is the business experiencing financial challenges? Whilst it might be the best time for you to receive a pay rise, you have more chance of getting what you want if you time the request right.
👉 Keep it professional. Explaining your personal circumstances might hinder rather than help you. Your case for deserving a pay rise should be based on evidence that your professional service is of value to your employer. Explain your worth, not what you’re planning to spend the money on.
